Gesso Preparation

Gesso is an absorbent ground made from chalk and rabbit skin glue size, and is suitable for a non flexible support only.

My Recipe

•Use 1 part rabbit skin glue crystals to 20 parts water. Soak overnight.

•Heat gently, do not boil.

•Add whiting bit by bit, stirring to a smooth cream.

•Dilute mixture with warm water until you have a single cream consistency.

•Paint coat on panel (de-grease first or cover with muslin).

•Follow with as many coats as you need.

•Sand in between drying to get a porcelain finish.
