Egg tempera is a fast-drying painting medium made from colored pigments mixed with an egg yolk binder. This technique has been used for centuries and was particularly popular in medieval and Renaissance art. The egg yolk acts as a binder, holding the pigment together and creating a paint that dries to a firm, matte finish with a unique luminosity.
