This drawing course is designed for all levels of ability—from complete beginners to practicing professionals. Whether you’re building a portfolio, preparing for an exhibition, managing stress, or simply wanting to learn how to draw, this course will introduce drawing techniques and fresh, experimental approaches to help expand your artistic practice. Who’s it for? This course is perfect for beginners, as well as professional artists and students preparing for A Levels or college/university applications. It also caters to designers and illustrators looking to loosen up their creative practice, and anyone interested in drawing for stress relief or returning to art after a break. What You’ll Get: You will receive personalised feedback and one-to-one support throughout the course, helping you grow your unique style and meet your personal goals in a supportive and encouraging environment. Each week, you'll tackle a variety of drawing exercises with different objects and improvisational tasks designed to spark creativity. You’ll also join a welcoming peer community for artistic exchange and inspiration. What Will You Learn? Measured drawing, perspective, and scale Mindfulness drawing Continuous line, contour, and gestural drawing Light and shade, including reductive tone with charcoal Composition, structure, and the use of negative space A brief history of drawing—from the old masters to contemporary artists Tools and techniques such as grids, projection, and modern drawing technology Teaching: Susan, a Chester-based artist, has been a practicing artist for over 30 years. She studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London, where the teaching philosophy was rooted in classical academic drawing principles, focusing on observation, proportion, anatomy, perspective, and light. Susan believes in the importance of drawing in all its forms and has taught on the fine art program at Wrexham University for over 20 years. In 2024, she transitioned to be a full-time artist offering occasional courses to share her passion for art. What Will You Need? Materials will be supplied for the first week. After that, you’ll need to bring your own supplies, which should include a variety of pencils, pens, charcoal, paper/sketchbook, and an eraser. Paper will be available at cost price, and each week you’ll be informed of what to bring for the following session.
